The tower was as dark and quiet as the heart of a Menxrukian priest. There was hardly any sound, though from time to time a faint whispery whine would sound out, then fade into silence, only to be repeated. This went on and on with varying levels of intensity. The silence and the monotony of the soft snores was abruptly shattered with a snort and a quiet shout. A squeaking hiss followed the snort, and then a female voice bellowed. "HERKEMIR!"
"Mistress .." Came a soft, whiny, hissing voice. "Get the lights." The words snapped, yet the voice was ... beautiful, lacking any other adjective at the moment. It's tones were pure, the pitch soothing, and that voice gave even those harsh words a lyrical quality. Suddenly the darkness was cut by the strong clear light from a light gem, revealing a room that was decorated eclectically, to put it tactfully. Tapestries ranging from a dozen periods of rather forgettable lands rested over the stone walls of the tower, and lightly brushed a thick carpet of intricate design in a rather horrid color caught somewhere between purple and brown. Bookshelves lined the walls, sometimes covering the tapestries wholly. A desk, cluttered and littered with parchment, scrolls books and other mysterious looking doodads rested against another curve in the wall, some of the detritus flowing onto the floor around it. Finally .. a large four posted bed rested against a rather large section of the wall. Draped in red velvet, it reminded one of something they may or may not have seen in some of the higher class bordello's. The woman on the bed though, despite fantasies one would have on hearing that voice, was ... interesting. That was a nice .. safe word. And safe was always paramount when dealing with a slightly unbalanced mage. She wasn't ugly .. that was a bit impossible considering who and what her mother was. It was just ... her eyes, soft and brown as a does, were set a bit too far apart. Her nose was far to small for the rather lush lips she'd been given. Her complexion was sadly that of a sun kissed farm girl, freckles galore, but her hair seemed to make the rest of them fit in a weird sort of way. It was long and a shade of purplish silver that was rather unique. "Mistress ..." The soft hiss sounded again and a small spider money scrambled over towards the bed. "Mistress have ugly dream?" It asked, in simple but understandable words. "Bad, Herkemir." She said almost petulantly and held out her arms. The monkey scrambled into them and she hugged it gently. "Something is insisting." "Insissssting what mistresssss?" The familiar asked as it wiggled a bit until it crawled out of her arms and onto her shoulder. The woman sighed and flopped back onto her pillows, sending the monkey tumbling onto the pillows itself. "Insisting that I pay attention." She sighed and pulled strands of hair off her face. She wasn't exactly the most restful of sleepers as was evidenced by the sheet that wrapped around her legs, tangling with the white linen nightgown. The familiar wisely refrained from questioning any further, knowing that she was working whatever it was out in her head. The woman chewed on her lower lip in an attempt to try and figure out just what it was that she was supposed to do. Of course she felt sorry for the poor girl, being all dead and such, and crazy to boot. Now being dead could always be fixed, hadn't she proven that already? She kicked the sheet from around her legs and go up out of bed and ran her hands through her hair to get it out of the way. It fell in soft tangled waves down past her wait, and after that she didn't pay it another thought. She must go see this creature, find out for herself what all this hullabaloo was about. But then, that would mean she had to go out and about and consort with ... people. They never understood her, not that it mattered really, but they always made things so difficult! Sighing she pulled the nightgown over her head and tossed it aside, then reached for a velvet pull rope as she searched around for something to put over her body. She found her dark purple robes and hastily crawled into them just as a part of the stone wall pushed inward and .. what used to be a man walked into the tower chamber. He looked normal from the neck down, broad shoulders, an impressive chest and strong arms and legs but his face ... it was smooth with only vestigial indentations where eyes, nose, and mouth had once been "Saddle my horse." She told the servant as she straightened the thick folds of the robe down over her hips. It merely bowed and left the same way it had entered. After it was gone, the woman wandered over towards her desk, looking for her belt. She tossed papers about and managed to find a wand she'd been looking for for the past week, a pouch of spell components and her journal, but no belt. "damnation, how am I supposed to gold my components and my wand if I don't have my belt?!" She asked the room at large in exasperation. A soft hiss was the only answer then the faint, soft scraping sounds of the familiar scurrying over the floor towards her, dragging the wide belt of sunny yellow in it's wake. She turned and smiled at the furry creature, and that expression seemed to bring those odd features together into a rather pretty, harmonious whole. "You're such a treasure." She murmured to the familiar and it chattered in happiness. She wrapped the belt around her waist, cinching the cumbersome folds of the robe beneath it until they only hung a bit past her knees. Tucking the wand in one little compartment made specifically for that and tying the pouch to a loop, she began looking for her ring. "How come I can never find anything in here?!" She yelled at no one in particular. More papers and books ended up on the floor until finally the signet type ring was enfolded firmly in her hand. When her head began turing again as if looking for something, the familiar scurried again and came back dragging the soft red slippers she always wore. They were a bit worn and the place where her big toe rested was threadbare, but she didn't seem to mind. Slipping them on, she turned and headed out of the room, the monkey scurrying out after quickly, knowing how his mistress tended to forget about trivial little things like whether an itty bitty familiar were in the way of a closing door. The door to the chamber closed silently with a wave of her hand and she headed towards the stairs, made of the same stone, that spiraled down towards the ground floor. She took the worn stairs quickly and squinted as she stepped out of the tower into the afternoon sunlight. It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust and she sighed. "I forgot the sun was still around" She mused quietly and waited a moment for her familiar to catch up, climb up her back and settle with a chitter of contentment on her right shoulder, then she headed toward the stable Set apart from the rather run down looking tower, it was made of stone as well and in pristine shape. A small cottage nestled beside it, and at her approach, a tall older man stepped out. "Afternoon daughter." The man said with a smile that made the laugh lines at his eyes and mouth stand out in sharp relief against his tanned features It was easy to see where she got the brown eyes from, and the complexion. She smiled and moved towards his open arms with an ease that spoke of much habit. "Afternoon daddy." She said primly and hugged him back. "Is bunny saddled?" She asked, peeking a look up at him. "Of course, Roweena." He said with a chuckle. "I do wish though you'd ride something besides that thing. I have a beautiful mare i've just broke to saddle. Just enough spirit to make her interesting. The woman shook her head and pulled out of his arms. "No daddy, I like Bunny. He has a fine sense of self preservation." She grinned and absently patted herself down as if looking for something. "As you will dear." He said with a deep chuckle. At those words, one of the faceless servants let the brown and white horse out of the barn, and it stood there docily. "Where are you off to today?" He asked as he checked the girth strap. "To a castle." She said as she mounted the horse who tried to dance a bit to the side, but was held firmly by the bridal by her father "-A- castle?" He asked, raising a red brow as he looked up at her. "Or -the- castle?" he knew she likely wouldn't understand the difference, but he'd rather not have her wandering about the countryside searching for a castle. Roweena looked confused for a moment then smiled. "The castle." She said and smiled brilliantly. "Something about a crazy ghost." She said vaguely and waved her hand in dismissal. her father chuckled again and she smiled gently then leaned down and planted a kiss on his cheek. "Good bye daddy." She took the reigns and her familiar hurriedly scrambled down to settle down in front of her, and they were off with a kick-up of dust, the gate in the wall already raising before she was even close to it. The three disappeared out it and into the woods, the sound of hooves disappearing finally. The gate was lowered, and shaking his head, the tall man wandered back into the stable. -- #Dragonmyst*inn and #RPGWorks channel operator.
