It looks my problem is almost solved. There are 2 simultaneously
circumstances acting:
1)The 6EA8, v1 and v3, key players on 80 and 20 mtrs signal receiving path
had to be changed (tnx to WB6OLJ for the suggestion);
2)The assial multiswitches are affected by 2 different types of issues, due
to the age (the humans call it arthrosis/arthritis), that means:
a) a false contacts issue due to oxidation and dust;
b) a mechanical over distance between the fixed side of the spring contacts
of the multiswitches and the mobile side. This cause that, even if you see
the switches "normal" while they are rotating, the fixed "spring contact"
are not touching correctly the mobile ones, that means another source of
false contacts.
The switch on the left side of the radio deceived me the first time I
switched on the radio (sometime still happens...). This is affecting all the
bands. The other points gives problems in some cases/bands.
73 to the net and tnx for the good suggestions.

Oggetto: RE: [drakelist] tr4c issue

How many times has this happened to me? More times than I can count.
Between the switch on the side of the radio and the so-called light bulb
fuse, I don't know which one has caused the most trouble. That being
said, the TR-4 is a pretty reliable piece of gear. I even restored one
that was exposed to salt water. Once it was washed and thoroughly dried,
and the controls and switches de-oxed it came on just as you would
expect. Even the cabinet was saved. Once I got rid of all the rust I was
able to do a passable repaint job using spray-on truck bed liner, of all
things. Gives a tough textured semi-gloss finish and doesn't cost fifty
bucks a cover plus shipping. A professional repaint job would have cost
more than I paid for the TR-4C.

Also the T/R switch on the left side of the radio gets bumped easily and
can
get pushed into the external receiver position or develps corrosion on
it,
muting the reciever. 73 Tim K8WBL
