Thanks to all who have replied so far. I am working for the first time with Drake gear, so I will undoubtedly display a lot of ignorance here. I've had this transmitter for about a month now. It came from an owner who had otherwise treated it well but kept it in storage for the last six years. Its condition seemed pretty good, and it worked fine for a few days. I had one of the 6JB6 finals go out, and while waiting for a new matched set to arrive, I took a close look at the AC-4 PS (probably should have done that before turning on anything : - ) Drawing heavily on Mark's web article on AC-4 troubleshooting, I checked all voltages and carefully inspected the electrolytic capacitors. C3 was leaking out the base, so I replaced it. At this point, I am in the process of replacing C5. It's taking me longer to do this than I expected because I am trying to gut the old capacitors and replace the insides with new caps. My results ain't too pretty thus far, and the dreaded black uckumpucky is giving me fits. Maybe I should have just disconnected the old caps and wired under the chassis some axials. I guess it's all a matter of preference. I really appreciate each and every reply and encouragement as I plod along.
TNX and 73,
Don
