Thanks to
everybody for suggestions as to my problem. Most of you were right on the
money.
Q307 had indeed taken a crap on me. I replaced it with a 2N3906 from
Radio Shack. Got a pack of 25 for $2.49. Radio Shack is pretty much out of the component business. They stock a few parts but nothing like years past when we hams could get anything that we needed there. I removed Q307 from the exciter board and tested it with my trusty Atlas DCAS 55 semi-conductor component analyzier. This is a cool little unit that will test all types of diodes, transistors, etc. The price is around $140.00. It showed the 2N4402 to be a diode so I immediately knew that one side had broken down. I bought the Peak Atlas and the Peak Atlas LCR passive component analyzier both for about $265.00 including shipping. The Atlas LCR will identify any type of resistor, capacitor or inductor and tell you the value. These are great little troubleshooting tool at a great price.
