My Drake R4A front pannel is completely mint except for a small serial number a previous owner scratched with a fine pin into the lower pannel. It is only 1.5 mm in height, in the small space just below "R. L. Drake Co. Miamisburg, Ohio" Here are some ideas off the top of my head, and would like your ideas, reactions, additions: 1) Go to a Jeweler/Engraver, and have a small brass (or gold plated) plate prepared about 2 MM in height, the right length, and have my call sign engraved on it. Use a carefully chosen, non destructive adhesive to mount it neatly over the serial number, thus concealing it, and providing the impression of "customization". 2) Take off the pannel, and take it into the Denver Art Museum, to a professional team of restorers. After all, the R4A qualifies as a "masterpiece", and these pros probably have the tools, experience and techniques to completely mask out the serial number. 3) Find a "Boat anchor pannel artist", and have both the matching T4X and the R4A front pannels repainted, so they will match.
