heathkit made several versions of the popular power supply. hp-23 hp-23a hp-23b and hp-23c the hp-23 has an on/off switch, pilot light. your choice of 250 or 300 volts via wiring at assembly time.it also provided both fixed and adjustable bias. fused operation. no 220 ac input the hp23a. has an on off switch with selection of either 250 or 300 volts. No pilot light. both fixed and adjustable bias. circuit breaker replaces fuse, 220 volt option. and your choice of either 6 or 12 volt filaments. the hp-23b. has an on off switch with selection of either 250 or 300 volts. No pilot light. no adjustable bias and no 6 volt filaments. circuit breaker operation and 220 volts wiring the Hp-23c. No on/off switch, or switch selection of B+, you hard wired either 300 or 250 at time of assembly. circuit breaker operation and 220 volt operation. the HP-23a is the most versatile of the series. with the exception of the +800 volt plate voltage, the ac-4 and hp-23 are twins. The circuits are the same for all practical purposes. dropping the plate voltage from +800 to a more acceptable +600 volts would require large bulky resistors. In the end, you would end up throwing away so much energy, the transformer would quickly overheat.. and... still taking orders on the new ac-4r replacement pcb for the drake ac-4 supply.
