I also have several SPR-4's (essentially a solid state R-4B). They receive AM real well in the AM mode. It isn't "HiFi" audio, but good communications grade audio. If I was going to listen to music, I would probably choose another receiver, but for solid voice communications, they work great. Regards Mike K8SWL
