It works just fine. Receiver bandwidth is then primarily limited by the 4 pole, 8 kHz wide ceramic filter in the Up-Converter, which is fine for AM reception. The "real" AM filters are either 6 or 8 kHz wide, most likely 8 pole, and so will have steeper skirt selectivity.
If you need more selectivity to cope with interfering signals, you can always switch to USB or LSB and zero-beat the carrier.
