Not sure, I purchased an ms7 to match my TR5 and
the ms7 had the sticky paint. My TR5 is the gray/black. The sticky paint
ms7 was darker... before I made it match my TR5.
Maybe the early tr7s were using the bad paint. I
think there is a website that describes the differences between the early and
late versions but I do not know the url.
