Hi Bruce,
Echo what Neil said...There's a small tab and spring on either side of the gear assembly...If you pull that back, it disengages the gear for that dial, so it will free-wheel...They interact slightly, so you'll have to do it a couple of times....You'll get the hang of it...We all did...hi,hi
