Wow. Free ads. Brings a few questions to mind. For some reason, "why?" wasn't one of them. ;-)

I'm frustrated by classified ad systems that no one sees. What kind of traffic does your site generate? Or are you hoping the "free ads" thing will help generate some traffic? I guess my real question here is, which one do you have, the chicken or the egg?

Zerobeat is what I'd call a medium traffic level site....I really didn't put up the ads to generate traffic(remember, I pay for the bandwidth, and unlike some places that beg for funds, or run contests, or have door prizes, I have a small line or two advertising my services).

I put the ads up with the same premise that I created this list and the drakelist web site...simply a way to "pay back" the amateur radio community for all the help and comradeship I've received over the years.

Sadly, I've noticed that the folks that beg for money, or abuse free services like this list with their part-time equipment reselling keep on trolling the waters.

> Also, if I considered displaying my phone number in an ad, why would I care if my email address were displayed or not? Personally, I'd post my email address long before I'd consider displaying my phone number in an ad. Spam I can deal with. Nut jobs are the real scary things.

Yes, I agree...and that's why the Classified Ad system allows you to NOT display both your email and phone number....perhaps you might look at it a bit more....or simply view the ads that are there now....you'll notice my test ad in the computer section doesn't show my email or phone number....and also gives the viewer a way to send me an email without showing my email address.

And, unlike one popular online ad system for Hams....you don't have to pay a dime to use it (g).

Think there aren't nut jobs watching? A guy went "postal" the other day on QRP-L because he was too dopey to unsubscribe himself. Said he was persecuted by the government. Yeah, okay, whatever.

Yes....and don't forget that one member of that list was dopey enough to mention that the list might move to manual approval, and very self-righteously stood up and volunteered his services to approve posts! As one of the people who is on "moderated" status on that list, I have first hand knowledge of how petty and power-hungry the list-censors can be.

I had an "interesting" series of emails with the wanna-be listcop: http://www.zerobeat.net/qrp/listcop.html

Curious minds and all that.

Good questions....I hope I answered them.
