Hello,
I started working on my receiver today and noticed the chassis had some black discoloration (burning) from the two 5 watt resistors on the power supply board (R115 and R116). When the radio is on, they are too hot to touch. I have replaced the two big filter caps (1000 uF and 3000 uF), thinking they may be shorted and running up the supply current. The radio appears to perform well.
Do any of you guys have any experience with this, or is this "nornal" for this circuit? I do understand that there are some problems with the design of the supply, but am not sure if I need to explore whether there are other circuits/components that are sucking extra current through those resistors, making them hotter than normal, or if I should just go ahead and perform the power supply mod to reduce the heat and increase regulation (mods.dk)
Is there a way to clean up the discoloration on the chassis, nearby wires, and board?
