The 6FQ7 is a plug-in replacement for the 6EV7. No circuit changes
necessary.
The 6AQ8 is a replacement, but requires a parallel resistor across the
filament pins in the T-4(any) ONLY. It takes a "nominal" 47 ohm, 2W
resistor across the filament pins. Check the filament voltage with the
resistor in place, and if it is within +/- 5% of 6.3 it's fine. The
TR-4(any) can use the 6AQ8 with no changes.
The 6EV7 is available from ESRC

for $4, among others. The 6FQ7 is $8 and the 6AQ8 is $10, so the 6EV7
is the best deal. There are LOTS of tube suppliers, and I'm sure at
least some of them have the 6EV7 available.

I saw a post a while back in reference to the 6EV7 and 6FQ7 tubes.
Seems like there was a mod that had to be done in order to use the
6FQ7 in place of the 6EV7. My manual shows my tx using the 6EV7 tube
but the tube socket is stamped with 6FQ7 from the factory. Does this
mean the mod has already been done? Will a 6EV7 tube now not work
properly in the radio? I am still trying to get my vox circuit to work
as it should and am hopeing this is the problem. Any help would be
appreciated.
