My R4B (serial 11195) was in pretty bad shape before I restored it,
I changed all electrolytics and some ceramic caps, changed the power rectifiers
for standard 1n4007's , replaced some bad resistors, the 330ohm amongst them,
as for the large can-electrolytic I simply disconnected it and put some fresh ones
inside the bottom cover instead, using slightly higher capacitances removed all hum,
the audio couldn't be better now, also had to run a few new wires due to melted insulation.
Oiling up and de-oxidizing the rotary switches is a good idea.
I still wasn't satisfied with the sensitivity so I replaced _all_ tubes, and the ant-input with a
UHF chassismount connector with fresh RG174 coax and replaced all components on the rf input stage,
using good quality metalfilm resistors and fresh ceramic caps the sensitivity improveda fair bit.
I also replaced all RCA/Phones connectors because the old ones were in really bad shape.
I'm _so_ pleased with this unit (my first Drake), I haven't used a better receiver and the audio is great.
Adding a fan to the chassis next to the transformer makes the unit live alot longer,
air-flow inside the unit was completely non-existant before this.
