 All,  regarding the coax contamination question,  coming from the cable
industry I have learned that all coax cable has a certain life expectancy.
Small diameter coax will start to deteriorate after 10 years usually in the
form of increased attenuation more noticeable at the higher frequencies.
It gradually gets worse over time from that point.   Large diameter coax and
hard-line cable start to noticeably deteriorate after 20 years.   Now the
time does vary somewhat with the construction and materials in the coax.
The bottom line, old coax probably should be thrown away and not used.
Especially if it shows its age, not been properly stored or otherwise
misused.

Yep...Radio Shack RG8X does this...I've thrown a lot of it away, as it is
impossible to solder once tarnished.
