Hi Kevin. I have a Drake 2-B myself now, and had one as an SWL and a
Novice back in the early 1970s. What a great receiver! Anyway, I have a
photocopy of the manual. If you wish, I can just run a copy and mail it to
you.
Please let me know if that will work for you. Also, the Drake 2-B will
cover a number of extra 600 khz segments in the HF spectrum. You can easily
put crystals to cover, for instance, several of the shortwave broadcasting
bands. You might also need additional crystals to cover the lowest and
highest portions of 10 meters.

I've ordered quite a few crystals from International Crystal Manufacturing,
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They have great customer service, and you'll
receive the crystals in 2-3 weeks. They have the 2-B in their database, so
if you tell the customer service rep the range you want to cover, they'll
know the proper crystal frequency. (Of course, this information is in the
manual, too.) There are a limited number of extra crystal positions, and
particular ranges have to go into certain positions, so you might have to
pick and choose which extra ranges you want to cover. However, covering the
rest of 10 meters isn't a problem, as there are dedicated 10 meter crystal
positions.

According to the manual, the stock 2-B won't cover 160 meters. There is a
2-LF long wave and medium wave converter that would work, if you can find
one. Palomar Engineering also used to make a converter that would work
fine with the 2-B, but I don't believe they still do.

Please let me know if a photocopy of the manual will work. 73, Tony N3WAK

Hi All,

I just acquired a Drake 2B for my vintage station. I am totally blind and
wonder if anyone has a manual in a non scanned format such as a plain .PDF
or text you might share with me electronically? My screen reader will not
read the maps off of BAMA or other image files.

Also, since I don't have a manual yet, if someone could explain how I might
find out what bands are covered by extra crystals that are in this radio, I
would appreciate it very much.

Finally, I would like to find crystals that would put it on 160 meters as
well as a couple of my favorite short wave bands. If anyone on list has
some crystals, please let me know. Otherwise, where is the best place to
order them.

Thanks all and very 73.

Kevin :)
