I found a cracked solder joint in a TR-7 PTO not long ago, using a method similar to Eddy's. The connection appeared entirely normal, except that the cut end of the wire poking through the solder seemed to be bent at an odd angle. The symptom was intermittent PTO operation, and the cause finally presented itself when the solder joint in question was 'stimulated' with a non-conductive tool.
