I am not familiar with the T4X VFO but I would imagine they are very similar if not the same. I have serviced both of my R4-C VFO's as per these tips and if you are very careful it is quite an easy process and the results effective. The issue I found on both of my R4-C's was the hardened grease in the bearings and on the PTO screw shaft that moves the slug in and out of the coil, this can be removed using a mild solvent (Freon type electronic board cleaner) from a pump spray can, one that does not leave any residue. Anyhow, check both of these articles. Also make certain the intermediate nylon gears properly mesh and there is no free play in the main tuning shaft. Good luck JB VK2IFT
