Ted -

Why do you say it's failed? They're pretty tough tubes, and relay problems are usually somewhere else.

There are several subs that 'work', but none is a good as the 6EV7. The 6EV7 is becoming expensive, ($10,) but so are all the common subs.

The 6AQ8 will work with the addition of a 47 ohm, 2W resistor in parallel with the filament.

The 6FQ7 is a good sub, but is also $10.

The 6CG7 is the least expensive of the bunch at $5, but is worked pretty hard in place of the 6EV7.

So if you can find one of the above at a hamfest for a couple of bucks, you can do ok.
