Found John's stuff on eBay, he offers an 'R-4B AC switch cap' (eBay auction # 390275202438).

I wrote him, and he graciously replied that there was no reference to that part on the T-4XB, so couldn't say for sure if it would work. Naturally, he suggested I buy one and try it! In looking at my R4B, it is identical in appearance, although it attaches to a switch and not a potentiometer, only difference is the 'tabs' on the switch crimp on to a switch wafer, instead of fitting into the rear of another potentiometer.

There could be a shaft difference, but these both have the same property: being able to close the contacts on the first bit of travel of the shaft, but continue to be rotated FURTHER and not affect the switch. Clever little arrangement (now that I have had mine apart!) I am sure I could marry the two together if need be.

So, I bought TWO. If it works, I will replace the equal age one on the R4B. John ships two parts for the price of one - for an honest $1.30! Not like SO many other auctions that charge at least $6 and often $10, regardless of the size. NICE!

I will report back if the R4B switch cap is compatible with the T-4XB switch.

Thanks so much for the tip Gary, this is such a GREAT reflector!

Kevin,
I have replaced several switches by prying off the bad one, and installing a new switch by trimming back the mounting tabs, and tack soldering it on. There are a few different styles of switches so you will need to locate the correct style. Back in the day Drake used to offer these so check with John Kriner, he may still have some.
