R4B preselector alignment now succesfully accomplished. Next alignment of the
passband tuner (PBT) per manual. This is what I found: 1) With the white line
in the passband tuning knob pointing to the left as seen from the front of the
receiver, all four slugs at the rear of the PBT are furthest to the rear of the
receiver. 2) When I turn the slugs for maximum voltage on an VTM to TP-2, the
voltage increase is only minimal, but if I turn the small screw at the rear of
the PBT, there is distinct voltage increase. The slugs do indeed turn, and a
slight change of pitch is heard when the slugs are turned, so apparently the
slugs are ok. 3) Turning the small screw fully CCW as seen from the front
gives highest sensitivity, but the sensivity is still two S-units down as
compared to when I got the receiver. 4) In which position should the adjustment
screw be when alignment of the PBT starts? 5)The calibrator signal reading on
the S-meter falls from 9 when the passband selector goes from 4.8 to .4.
Thanks in advance.
