Opened up new TR-4C that came from Flea Bay. I powered it up with the AC-4
that I put the Heath Shop P/S kit in and use daily with the 'B' line.
Looks like only one of the finals lit up and some of the other tubes were
not coming on and no sound at all. No smoke though. Pulled the cover off
and gave a better inspection. Pretty clean, nothing burned and looks
pretty good top and bottom. Tested ALL the tubes in the B&K 707 and ALL
tested good. Ragged off the tubes to get a bit of dust off and wiggled
them back into place. Put power back on and some of the tubes still did
not light so started wiggling them some more and they started to come on.
Now the USB/LSB lights are working but still no sound. Tried the headset
jack and very good audio here. Sounds very nice indeed on 40M. Try the
tune function and it puts out an easy 150+ watts. Mic jack has been
changed to 1/4" and is not wired as std drake as in manual so I tested the
PTT with a screwdriver and it clicks into Xmit OK. So have to get audio to
the AC4 Jack (which worked on the other TR-4) and rewire the mic jack to
test the Xmit audio. Both filters sound good and the PTO is nice and
stable (although it feels dry). I found an old Turner 454 SSB to try on it.
