Rick makes a very good point. The Heathkit Shop has a retrofit kit (AC-4R) to
upgrade the AC-4. I ahve two AC-4s witht he kits in them and can vouch for the
high quality of the kits. The URL for the website is
http://www.theheathkitshop.com/. It looks like the owner is taking a break but
you can add your name to the list for the AC-4R kit.
Also, the radio itself is 40+ years old and the 'lytics in it are probably in
the same condition (little or no capacitance and/or high ESR). Hayseed Hamfest
has a drop-in substitute for the 3-section twist-lock capacitor (and one
discreet cap) for about $30. The URL is
