So I have a practically identical setup with Intel 82580 NICs. I found
updating the driver fixed some problems, I'm using a 2.3.4 RPM on
CentOS/RHEL 5.5 with success in a balance-rr fashion. However, I've only
tested with DRBD 8.3.8.1 and newer.

# modinfo igb
filename:
/lib/modules/2.6.18-194.26.1.el5xen/weak-updates/hp-igb/igb.ko
version: 2.3.4
license: GPL
description: Intel(R) Gigabit Ethernet Network Driver
author: Intel Corporation, <[email protected]>

I can send you the RPM off list if you want to try it.
