Your syslog hopefully captures kernel logs somewhere
(/var/log/kernel.log?). But that may be included in /var/log/messages in
your system.
You can check dmesg for recent DRBD output.

These things are difficult to trace (from my limited experience).

No. DRBD has no notion of the files it syncs. All it knows are 4k blocks
of data.
