Why?

drbdadm primary --force r0 would have done just fine. I also seem to recall 
that the new-current-uuid trick only works when the peers are connected, but at 
any rate, that's a moot point here. Just force the single node to be primary, 
and you should be fine.

Arguably that's not really graceful failure; not sure if that's intended. I 
don't use 8.4 at this point, so I may have missed something.
