This was caused by the compat layer, which in the end generated
unaligned code. This should be fixed in the current HEAD on github[1].
Please test. Please note that code in the submodule was changed, so
don't forget about "git submodule update".

For others reading this, no need to panic, x86 handles unaligned
accesses. And if you are on architectures that do not handle them, also
no need for you to panic, the kernel does that for you ;-).
