STAIN

A stain is a sign or indication that some fault, sin, or problem has
occured. 'A stain on my reputation', means my reputation has been
compromised.

Sin is a STAIN on one's soul. The souls in Purgatory are there to remove the
stains on their souls, which are the results of the sins they committed,
(once the guilt has been forgiven.)

STAR

The central focus, the center of attention, the celebrity.

2 The one by whose light we are guided: 'Star of the Sea' is a title of Our
Holy Mother.

3. An ensignia or sign that says 'this is the right place' or 'this is
good.'

STEP, STEPS

Steps of discipline and hard work lead to success.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. A step in a dream
could be encouragement to begin.

Taking the right step is important.

Stepping on someone's privacy or property or rights, could be a
transgression.

STICK

A stick would be similar to 'staff.' It could represent a 'leaning stick',
or 'staff of old age,' a support. Or it could be a stick that beats, 'spare
the rod and spoil the child.' Common meanings would be authority, discipline
and support.

STONE

Depending on size, it could be minor or severe criticisms. 'Stoning' in the
old days, and even in modern patriarchal cultures (for women) is punishment
unto death. But this being not a common occurence, stones in a dream usually
mean some sort of criticism, especially if more than one person is giving
it.

'A stone in my shoe' could be a major annoyance or enemy.

STORK

Because the legend goes that storks bring babies, a stork might be herald of
something new - a project, an offer, job, relationship, etc.

STORM

Storm would be trouble, chaos, arguments outer or inner. Lightning would be
the volatile energy transmitted. Chaotic rain amidst wind would be the
discomfort.

STRANGER

In a dream, a stranger would be a new character in your life, as everyone is
a stranger until you get to know them. Therefore, it would be the entrance
of someone new.

It could be a person you think you know but don't really know, as in the
statement,

'You have become a stranger to me.'

STRENGTH

In spiritual dreams, spiritual, mystical strength is shown by arms, by a
mystical flying horse, by powerful and sometimes hairy legs, and many other
symbols.

STRING (CORD, ROPE)

String, cord, rope are used to tie up and tether. Therefore, these would be
symbols of restraint and constraint, and attachment as opposed to freedom.

I saw a man (in my dream) with a knife in his hand. I tried to take it away,
but it was attached to him by a rope. I knew this was saying to me that he
was attached to his anger.

In the exorcism we 'bind up the strong man' and send him to Hell (strong man
being demon.) In other words, we disable the demon by tying him up,
figuratively speaking. We have to disable him before we can send him to the
pit of Hell, and this is done by invoking the power of God.

STRUGGLE

Struggles in dreams usually denote struggles in our daily hardships.

Once I was being sucked dry of my energy by distractions, and I saw myself
crawling on the sand, going through the desert, following a saint. He was a
few feet in front and I called him to help, as I could not go on. This is a
struggle for energy.

If you see yourself actually wrestling it could be wrestling with
temptation, a sin or addiction you are trying to overcome.

STYX (THE)

This is a sea or river which leads to death and Hell, in Dante's Divine
Comedy. A body of water like that would be overcome with gloom.

SUBTERRANEAN (UNDERGROUND)

Since I minister to Purgatory, almost all my underground dreams have to do
with that. I often see Purgatory as being within deep caves, because the
rock surrounding the souls is the rock of Christ, wherein they are safe.

SULPHUR

This is a sign of Hell, because 'Sulphur and brimstone' describe Hell in the
Old Testament.

SUN

Sun would represent the Light of God, the light of reason, the Light of
Truth. It could also mean the vivifying Light that brings life to our earth.

The rising sun would be hope, expectation, beginning again.

The setting sun would be time to rest.

SUPPORT (COLUMNS, HOLDING UP)

To support or hold up would be to make viable a thing, to enable it. Saint
John Boscoe (a great dreamer) dreamed of a body of water and there were two
huge columns, which represented Jesus and Mary. They were the supports of
the Catholic Church.

SWAN

In yoga, swans can be symbols of great saints that have passed on.

In the world of ballet, swans are prominent. 'The Swan' was Anna Pavlova's
greatest part, from Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake.' Here a beautiful female had a
spell put upon her, to live as a swan, and a handsome Prince shot her with
his arrow. She comes to life for a while, but has to leave him and become a
swan again.

SWORD

A sword is a great spiritual sign of power and defense against evil. 'The
sword of the Spirit,' from St. Paul's 'put on the whole armour of God.'
