When I do a "make install" I normally just backup my /usr/X11R6
directory before... that's enough and it includes EEVERYTHING excpect
the DRM module (which resides in its usual playe at /lib/modules/...).
 
If the new X tree doesn't work, copy the back the old one and you're up
and running again.
