I am the one who reported this issue on dri-users mailing list as John X
says. This problem is that DRI works perfectly except that many 'random
dots" appear on the screen and they flash as other portion of the screen
refresh. The DRIsetup program and glxinfo say DRI is correctly set
up. I had no problem with G200 with the same configuration. I have
this problem with Radeon SDR 32MB. I am using Pentium II 333MB with
440LX chip set, but as John X uses K7 and KT133, chip sets doesn't
matter, I think. I use RedHat7.0 with DRI libraries, includes, Xserver
and kernel module on XFree 4.0.2. Previously I used Debian2.2r2.
After that, I found some strange phenomena.
After the random dots appear, on the screen are full of random dots,
which seem to be mismapped from other dots. Many of the dots are
aligned vertically (probably every 32dots horizontally), and some are
really random. After exiting X Window, even characters are mismapped;
I mean some characters are missing. Even after removing kernel module
with "rmmod radeon", it isn't improved (of course lsmod says no modules
are loaded). As a matter of course, if I don't load kernel module
radeon.o, Xserver works fine except that glx direct rendering is off as
a matter of course.
So I guess some registers in the Radeon chip which map dots to memory
are incorrectly set in DRI kernel module. I don't have any problem on
Windows98SE with OpenGL or DirectX 7/8 applications, so DRI kernel
module must be wrong.
Unfortunately I don't know how to correct this bug in the source
code. Comparing codes for Radeon with that for MGA, I cannot find any
clues, although MGA G200 works fine on my machine. Will anyone help
me? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
