Check your /var/log/XFree86.0.log -- I'm sure it will say that the
"static buffer allocation failed", and tell you how much memory is
needed. This number will be greater than your available card memory,
and thus you'll need to run at a lower resolution and/or bit depth to
enable 3D acceleration.
