The error is caused by the changed version of grDRIOpen in the SLIAA Glide3 branch (the SLIAA version takes different parameters). http://www.directspeed.net/~relnev/tdfx/tdfx_hack.patch is a patch that changes the grDRIOpen call in the mesa-3-5-branch to match the SLIAA Glide3 version. As expected, after making these changes and reenabling the SLI-related code in the X server, SLI mode does not work (instead, only white lines are shown and you have to kill the X server).
