First, can you answer some questions?

- At what screen resolution do you run X?
- What exactly model of Radeon do you have? (The output of 'lspci -vv' is
  helpful here.)
- What XFree86 / DRI version are you using?
- What kernel version are you using?

I'm not aware of any Radeon problems in 16-bit, but that doesn't mean that
they don't exist.
