I have a 3 2000 on a PII350 and my quake3demo timedemos are the best yet.

glxinfo shows -

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI 20020221 Voodoo3 x86/MMX
OpenGL version string: 1.2 Mesa 4.0.2

Note version.

I guess yours should say 3dnow if you set the define in host.def and have 
it in kernel - see compile guide. (I guess K6-2 can use 3dnow?)

As an aside does glxinfo turn your gamma up a bit - mine does but xgamma 
still says it's 1.0 Hmmm.
