I've been told we're pretty much on our own.  I had to press my luck with 
this to get the info on a host data error interrupt/reset, which was 
mentioned in the documentation but not offered.  I guess we could pester 
again, but I really don't want to burn bridges- I want to see the Radeon 8500 
supported as open source, etc.

If this works out, great.  It's still going to have stalls.  If it doesn't 
work or isn't safe, we've still got some stuff in hand to lower the amount of 
stall time that we've discussed on IRC  (Which is to set the chip to 
interrupt on the VBLANK and when it hits the midpoint scanline- that's 
something like 120-160hz which is probably much more than the chip could 
handle in rendering performance.  I'm still voting for that one because it 
gives cleaner error recovery...)
