As Keith said, this won't help much if your system is hanging.  You can 
carefully crawl up to the edge of the cliff, but you don't know where 
the edge is :-)  Each time you fall, you need to reboot and possibly 
fsck depending on your file system.

Perhaps it's better for you to wait until the driver is more stable.
