This happed in the 1.32 patch of Q3A with the CVS versions of
XFree86.  There is a Linux-specific patch 1.32b which I think was
built specifically to address this problem.  I got mine from a link 
on Linuxgames.com.  I beleive that id should have it on their ftp,
however.
