you could try the following:
force the Chip-ID to one of a 8500QL-card by inserting this line in the Device-Section of your XF86Config-4

Section "Device"
[...]
ChipID 0x514C # pretend that the card is an ATI Radeon 8500 QL
[...]
EndSection
