There is an open source version. Does that not have the problems?
What about running it with indirect rendering forced?

I get less but still a significant number of rendering glitches in w2k with 
catalyst drivers that I personally wouldn't go down that path, albeit 
typically with closed source applications so the cause is moot.

Maybe, but I've never noticed rendering problems with [open source] tuxracer 
using nvidia drivers nor from what I can remember kyroII drivers (and none
with the r100 that aren't mirrored in some simpler open source mesa / glut 
demo afaicr )
