I'm afraid it's not that simple, some new code needs to be written to be
able to merge the two.

More than that, backwards compatibility is a requirement, otherwise the
DRM gets kicked out of the kernel by Linus.

In fact, in the proposed solution (have you gotten any feedback on it by
the GATOS people yet?), the DRM can fix up the difference between what
the 3D driver thinks the memory layout is and what it actually is.
