I found at least a workaround for the problem. Set Option "DisableTile" "on"
in the Device section of XF86Config-4. I think this has something to do with the frame buffer layout. Accellerated stuff seems to get it right. But non-accelerated stuff accesses the frame buffer in the wrong way. Try Option "Accel" "off" and you'll see what I mean. Basically the screen is squeezed vertically to half the height. I havn't found a real fix yet. Does someone with more 2D experience have a pointer?
