I did a quick diff. It looks like DRI is synchronized with the 
main XFree86 CVS every now and then. GATOS appears to have been 
branched off XFree86 sometime around 4.3.0. Unfortunately (for me)
the source in DRI has been extensively reformatted (doxygenated)
since then so the diffs are practically useless. 

I had lots of problems with my card and XFree86 in the past and most 
of them have been resolved by switching to the latest DRI CVS. 
At present GATOS simply does not recognize my card at all. So I guess 
my best option is to stick with the DRI CVS version and gradually 
move bits and pieces of GATOS into it. It will be helpful to know the 
exact version of the XFree86 at the time when GATOS was branched off.

Any suggestings? Anyone else working on it already?
