It's not like I enjoy it...

My concern is that it's much easier to add things to the DRM than to
remove them. And you're saying yourself that there are better solutions
for some of the things you want to add...

My proposal would be to create the standalone drm module with minimal
changes (as I have stated before, I don't have time to do it myself).
Then you create a branch, where you can do whatever you please. Once you
have a complete, working prototype system, we can look into how to best
integrate it.

How does this sound to everybody?
