I don't think there's much chance of ATI giving out those docs now.
Matthew Tippet at ATI, who I have exchanged some e-mail with, said "It is
unlikely (for a number of reasons) that we will be releasing any R300
specifications any time soon."  This was back on March 4th.

When I pressed a little further for those reasons, it sounded like ATI
thought the basic 3D functionality on the R300 (similar to what is
supported in the open source R200 driver) is more closely tied to the
advanced 3D functionality, making it difficult to separate the specs.
I have my doubts that that is the real reason ATI won't do it :-)

On the plus side, Vladimir Dergachev seems really interested in getting
the R300 supported, with or without ATI's help.  I'm certainly willing to
test anything on the 9800 that I have floating around :-)
