Got it working last night! Ran OpenGL screensavers and played Chromium B.S.U. for an hour or so, no lockups. Verified that DRI is enabled. Glxgears reports 1233 fps. Not bad for the old G400 Matrox. Performance isn't up to the level of newer cards, but at least the drivers are fully open source.
I have the /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) and AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support compiled directly into the kernel; the mga DRM as a module. Had to disable the kernel option for only compiling known-good drivers. Kernel is 2.6.7 with your x86_64-2.6.7-1.bz2 patch applied. Gentoo compiled xorg set to AGP 4X, OverclockMem enabled.
