If you do not have the according rights to access /dev/dri/card* directly, OpenGL applications should default to indirect rendering. On some machines, the application segfaults instead (or does other funky stuff). Not easy to reproduce. Seems to depend on a lot of configuration and application details. However, fix is pending.
