I just finished updating my CVS tree and rebuilding ...

No updates for Mesa showed up, but several for the r300 driver did. I no longer experience the lockups I was having with lesson01.

I will continue to test ...

My tree that I built with was updated and built shortly before I sent out the e-mail.

I realize that the ati shader is part of the Mesa code (and it is new), but the thing that weirded me out about it is that technically ... it was
never really used. I mean - lesson01 just generates an opengl context
and basically waits for the user to shut it down.

It is even more interesting when I found the next few lessons after 01 worked fine for me.

I will update the tree again, but since I am updating from anonymous it might be an issue that some updates are not getting to me very fast.

ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]

The speed reported by glxgears has improved by about a 100 frames a second over what it was last weekend.

I have started to go through the lessons at nehe for testing and I was unable to get past lesson 1.

Output:

r300NewProgram, target=34336, id=0
vertex prog
r300NewProgram, target=34820, id=0
fragment prog
r300NewProgram, target=35104, id=0
ati fragment prog
Using 8 maximum texture units..

At which point X would freeze. I was still able to log in remotely and shutdown the system.

It could be the issue is due to the Mesa tree rather than the driver - the fragment support is very new.

Could you try updating to the latest Mesa tree and newest r300_driver code ?

I updated this Sunday and it works fine for me..

Quick test of commenting out the calling of the ati fragment program stopped the lockup.

I am going to continue on this path of testing and will let you know what I find.

Thank you !
