Because I need to get Croquet working.
And because it crashes after 3 seconds on 6.2.1,
and because it doesn't work at all with the CVS sources... the CVS
sources can't even do ppracer (a tuxracer derivative) right,
I decided to ignore the fact that I just invested $40 in a video card
with a supposedly stable driver and tried to get my Mach64 working...

I switched my manual init script to load the Mach64 driver... (because
the automated init scripts are an impenatrable mess I've resorted to
manually running a startup script every time I fire the machine up...)

Okay, I then fire up croquet on the mach64 -- it hard locks.
I try the Nintendo 64 emulator that i've spent far too much time hacking
on. -- It hard locks...
I log into the machine via a serial port and start TOP then start
pp-racer. -- Guess what, it hard-locks.

It is totally unresponsive on both monitors, from the keyboard and
mouse. It also stops servicing Top on the serial port and is totally
nonresponsive.

I know the Mach64 driver has never really stabilized... but I remember
distinctly getting a good 6fps out of the thing on a previous version of
the DRI source... (software only is 1.5fps..)

I don't know what's going on here but I really need a bunch of stuff to
start working....

Friends don't let friends use GCC 3.4.4
GCC 3.3.6 produces code that's twice as fast on x86!
