I got some more news on this.  I can once again use software rendering
to play this game.

r300 is still not working.  I don't think this is the problem, but no
harm in posting it.

What am I left with, would a register dump help?
I will keep testing, but it's tempting to play games that work.

Diablo II with internal SW rendering.
Warcraft III, with the r300 drivers.
Quake3, with the Urban Terror mod.
