Ah: I was under the impression that they'd done away with the 2D
engine altogether & were using a single hardware interface to do both
2D and 3D and that this was the reason for their reticence in
revealing the details of the acceleration interface (since it reveals
details of the 3D interface which history demonstrates that they don't
want to open up).
